Heitor Villa-Lobos had an unusual enthusiasm for Brazilian youth.It was for the youth of that time he wanted to open them the waythe art world. He learned music alone.
Heitor Villa-Lobos was born on March 5, 1887, in Ipiranga Streetin the neighborhood of Orange, Rio de Janeiro. Son of RaulVilla-Lobos, professor, amateur musician and employee of the National Library, and Mrs. Noemia, housewives.
Very early Hector or Tuhua, his family nickname, began hismusical life. He began at age six, playing a small cello.
At age 11 with his father learned to play clarinet.
After long illness, his father died at age 37, leaving his family in a difficult situation, although workers and good family. It was animprovident man, and won all but spent, out of control. Becomesomewhat official musician of Brazil, Villa-Lobos in 1945 foundedthe Brazilian Academy of Music, which is named president, and begins to make regular trips abroad, has to represent his country in Congress.
